The construction of the schematic is an important step to design your PCB. The part list is used as a basis, and all the components are imported into the schematic editor with component type, pin numbers and footprints. New or unknown components are designed separately and used to build your schematic library.


The schematic is usually the basis for the PCB layout. The board outline are set. Components are placed on the PCB and ground plane are defined. The component description are added to the silk screen layers. Both manually checking and the automated Design Rule Check is important for a successful PCB design.


Depending on the complexity of the layout, we need to set the number of routing layers for the PCB. Two layers is less expensive than four or six layers, but if the size matters then more layers often solve the issue of the PCB size.

Production Files

For the production of the PCB, you need Gerber files and Drill files. The gerber files describes the layout of the PCB, with board outline, placement of the components, routing, text and illustrations for the silk screen layer and everything else the manufacturer needs to produce your PCB. The Drill files describes the size and placement of all the mounting and VIA holes on the PCB.
